The final approximation is a mixture of\nmultivariate normal distributions and might be used for example\nas a proposal distribution for importance sampling (eg in\nBayesian applications). The algorithm can be seen as a\ncomputational generalization of the Laplace approximation\nsuitable for skew or multimodal densities.",
